This week has been a whirlwind, witches. However, in the chaos, there is a reminder of how powerful community really is. As many of you know, Julie, my wife, has an oral surgery coming up. As a consequence, both of us will be stepping back for a few days as I support her.
This is one of those times when people need help, and the tidal wave of kindness that rose up around us was amazing. One witch is stepping in to teach my Wednesday class. Other witches are offering to help at the store or offering meals. Witches checking in, sending love, holding space all while running their own gauntlets. And in the personal lives of the beautiful souls helping, there are some really difficult challenges being faced.
And that’s when it hit me. This is what empowered feminine magic looks like in the wild. Not the aesthetic. Not the Instagram version. Not the “love and light unless you inconvenience me” version. I’m talking about the real thing, the kind of strength that comes from choosing yourself so fully that you can show up for others without losing a single drop of your own power. And as the full moon approaches, that energy is only getting louder.
In the beginner witchcraft course that I teach, this week we were discussing Tarot. As any good Tarot discussion goes, we started with the Fool, the card that speaks to the moment where you stop gripping the edge and finally step into the unknown. Not recklessly. Not blindly. But with that deep, intuitive knowing that says: “This is my path. I choose it.”
So many witches, especially women, have been conditioned to fear disappointing others. To be agreeable. To be small. To be “acceptable.” It is sad how we as a society allow this, rather than encouraging the energy of the Fool. The Fool doesn’t ask permission. The Fool doesn’t shrink. The Fool trusts their intuition and moves.
And that’s the energy I want you to carry into this full moon.
Another card worth mentioning is Strength; the card that shows us that the lion’s roar doesn’t need to be hurtful to be powerful. It tells us that strength isn’t about force, It’s about presence. It’s the lion who doesn’t need to roar to prove anything, but absolutely can when the moment calls for it.
The witches supporting Julie this week aren’t doing it out of obligation. They’re not afraid of disappointing us. They’re not bending themselves into shapes to be “good.” They’re choosing to help because they’re kind powerful people that want to give. That’s Strength. That’s sovereignty. That’s the kind of feminine power that can move mountains.
Speaking of feminine energy, the High Priestess reminds us that intuition is not a suggestion, we need to trust it. The High Priestess doesn’t wait for external validation. She doesn’t need someone else to approve her choices. She knows.
And here’s the truth I want you to take in: You deserve to trust yourself. You deserve to choose yourself. You deserve to follow the voice inside you that whispers, “This is who I am.”
What you don’t need is the voice of society, the voices of people projecting their insecurities onto you, any voice that tells you to be smaller, quieter, easier. Your intuition is your authority. Full stop.
Another bad-ass feminine card is The Empress, and she tells us that our kindness is not an Invitation to be used. Her message is the one that I want you to feel in your bones: “You are kind. You are warm. You are generous. You are loving. And none of that means you should tolerate unkindness.”
The Empress gives from abundance, not obligation. She nurtures because she chooses to, not because she’s afraid of disappointing someone. You deserve relationships where you are valued, not managed. Where you are celebrated, not judged. Where you are allowed to grow in the direction you choose, not the direction someone else demands.
Your kindness is a gift; not a weakness, not a leash, not a bargaining chip. And anyone who treats it otherwise does not deserve access to the shine of your magick.
Speaking of shine, The Star tells us that we shine brighter when we choose ourselves. The Star is the moment after the storm when you remember who you are. It’s the soft glow of hope. The quiet return of self‑trust, the realization that your light was never meant to be dimmed to make someone else comfortable.
Choosing yourself doesn’t make you selfish, it makes you sustainable. When you choose yourself, you shine in a way that lifts everyone around you, just like the witches who stepped up this week, just like the community that keeps showing up with love, just like you will, once you stop shrinking for people who don’t know how to hold your light.
Appropriately, I want to end this blog with The World card; encouraging us to find liberation under the full moon. Under this full moon, choose yourself. Not because you’re abandoning others, but because choosing yourself is what allows you to show up with fullness, not fear.
This full moon is an invitation to release the fear of disappointing others. To step into your intuition like The Fool. To embody your courage like Strength. To trust your inner knowing like The High Priestess. To honour your worth like The Empress. To shine like The Star. To liberate yourself like The World.
You deserve love. You deserve respect. You deserve people who value you, not people who try to reshape you into something smaller. And if no one has told you this lately, let me be the one: You are a rockstar of a witch. You are powerful. You are kind. And you deserve a life that reflects that.
And that, witches, is where the real magick begins.
