Trusting Yourself: The Witch’s First and Lifelong Lesson

I’ve been thinking a lot this week about trust — not the kind we place in other people, but the kind we’re supposed to place in ourselves. And if I’m being honest, it’s the kind I’ve struggled with the most these past few days.

As I mentioned in my last post, I had a rather challenging week last week.  The kind that makes you question your judgement and your competence.  The week ended with a medical procedure that required general anesthesia (and just as an FYI, the procedure went great).

However, it did make me think, how easily we have confidence to others, but how quick we are to lose confidence in ourselves. I had one unpleasant experience, and it made me question myself, but I had no issue putting my life in the hands of strangers, albeit strangers with medical degrees.

In many cases, we trust the judgment, instincts, and clarity of others… long before we trust our own. We assume they see something we don’t, or that their certainty is somehow more valid than our quiet knowing. But here’s the truth: witchcraft doesn’t work without self‑trust.

You can have all the tools, all the knowledge, all the beautifully crafted rituals — but if you don’t believe in your own ability to sense, to choose, to act, then the magick never really ignites. Spell craft isn’t powered by ingredients. It’s powered by conviction. And this week tested mine.

Between the stress, the fog, the overwhelm, and the emotional weight of everything that happened, I found myself second‑guessing things I normally know in my bones. I kept looking outward for reassurance instead of inward for truth. I forgot, for a moment, that my intuition has never actually steered me wrong — I just sometimes stop listening.

But here’s the thing: self‑trust isn’t a switch you flip. It’s a muscle you build. Some days it’s strong. Some days it trembles. Some days it disappears under the noise of life and stress and fear. But we all lose confidence; the trick is to try again.  See yourself the way others see you, strong and capable. Do the small things that prove to you that you can do the big things.  Push your boundaries.

And then, slowly, the self trust and self belief will return — in the clarity after rest, in the small decisions that feel right, in the quiet moment when you realize you knew the answer all along. The belief in yourself will make your magick work.  Your ability to listen to yourself will show you the best path forward.

If you’ve been doubting yourself lately, you’re not alone. But remember this: Your magic begins with you. Your intuition is a sense, not a guess. And trusting yourself is the first spell every witch learns — and the one we keep learning, over and over, for the rest of our lives.

Have you had self doubt lately or an issue that has made you lose confidence, please share in the comments and let’s support each other.

Blessed Be!
